Pack Their Bags!

I'm ready!
We’ve talked about the need to keep your pet prepared for disasters. A part of that preparedness is to have a kit put together ahead of time. I have a list of items that are recommended by the official San Francisco website, http://sfgov.org, they know a thing or two about disasters such as earthquakes!
Here is the list:
-
Sturdy crate or carrier
-
Collars and ID tags
-
Leashes
-
A seven day supply of food and water. Small pop-top cans of dog or cat food for single servings works very well.
-
Sturdy bowls; the kind that won’t tip over.
-
Litter box and litter. You can find disposable litter boxes at pet stores and the super market.
-
Medications that your pet may be taking.
-
Manual can opener even if you have the top-top cans. Be sure to get plastic lid covers for any leftover food that your pet doesn’t eat.
-
A copy of your pet’s medical records.
-
A recent picture
-
Pet First Aid Kit (see below)
-
Phone number of emergency veterinary hospital.
-
Phone number of local animal shelter.
-
For long term confinement: chains, cable-runs, tie out stakes and portable caging.
-
Large plastic bags for cleanup or pads like we have in our eBay store.
-
Pooper Scoopers which we also carry.
You need to also be prepared to administer first aid in case your pet gets injured and you can’t get to a vet right away. Put together a simple First Aid Kit to keep with the other supplies. Here is what you need to include in it:
-
Scissors
-
Tweezers
-
Cotton Swabs
-
Large and small bandages
-
Antibiotic ointment
-
Hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting or to clean deep wounds.
-
Elastic tape
-
Eye Wash (saline)
-
Ear-cleaning solutions
-
K-Y Jelly (water soluble)
-
Medicine that has been prescribed by the vet
Show this list to your vet who may have some additional suggestions and ask him or her for some guidelines.
We all hope that nothing bad ever happens however all you have to do is watch the evening news or pick up a newspaper. Unfortunately all sorts of natural and man-made disasters happen regularly. The best way to feel at peace is to be prepared, that’s the principle behind the reason we buy insurance. Here is a way you can have insurance for your pet at a very low cost!
Keep these items in a safe accessible place where you can get to them quickly with the rest of the family’s emergency kit.
Your Best Friend Is Counting On You!
