Pet Emergency Preparedness

Family Food Stockpile
The first disaster preparedness for animals took place when Noah built his arc as instructed by God. Preparedness is not a new concept at all. Noah did not start it when he felt the first rain drops, he started building, gathering supplies and the animal’s way before that happened. Whether or not you believe the story of Noah you have to appreciate the fact that he was ready for a disaster! In modern times, even though weather people can predict weather changes, just knowing it is going to happen does not prevent it. The knowing gives you a little more time to prepare. Some disasters such as fires and floods are not as predictable. You can see the probability but there is a margin for error.
Whiskerfeathers News is all about caring for animals so just like Noah, we want to encourage you to not wait until the rain drops start to fall. Get and stay prepared for whatever may happen in the way of a disaster for your pets! This awareness was brought home to us in the evening news as we watched horrified by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina pets. We are always aware of these things on some level but when it’s there on the living room TV screen a new urgency was born.
Some people refused to abandon their dogs, cats and other pets and lost their lives. Other people abandoned them and the pets got lost and/or lost their lives. The stories are endless, there were some happy endings and noble humanitarian efforts brought out the best in selfless volunteers.
Katrina was a fairly recent disaster, 1992 was not that long ago. It also stands out because it got national and worldwide attention. Since then there have been many other disasters such as the California fires and unfortunately there will be many more in the future. Get and stay prepared.
If you think you’ll just take your pet with you, please know that animals are not allowed in shelters!
So what do you do? How do you plan? At Whiskerfeathers.com we have a free Pet Emergency Preparedness Report. The Humane Society Society as well as your local emergency preparedness agencies has a lot of information to give you.
Be a modern day Noah; plan not only for yourself but for your pets.
Your Best Friend Is Counting On You!
