Yummy!
Cat Salad
Cat owners love to see our cats happy. If you have an indoor cat as I do, we give them toys, cat trees to climb on and even tunnels to hide in. We give them good food to thrive on and catnip to get a little nutty with. A few years ago I was in a store and spotted something called Kitty Greens! On close inspection I thought that this was something our cats might like. You see, Cat Grass is supposed to supplement the animal’s diet with vitamins and minerals. It may also cut down on hairballs by binding with loose hair in the stomach and causing the cat to throw up the accumulated hair by vomiting.
I bought a container of the kitty greens and came home all excited to have something new to surprise them with. My boy cat Martin Luther glanced at it and turned his nose up, however my Sofie dug right in, such a good girl!
Here are some facts I’ve learned about Cat or Kitty Grass:
- Cat Grass is sold in small containers which makes it very handy.
- Many domestic cats, particularly those who live entirely indoors, enjoy eating a small quantity of the grass every day. Cats may pluck the grass from the container themselves or, in some cases, accept cut blades of grass from their owners. A cat will typically consume about five to ten blades of the grass daily.
- Cats really like the grass in the early stages of growth. Once the blades of grass mature or old and become firmer, cats may lose interest in eating it.
- Cat grass is very affordable and a safe way to enrich their cat’s diet, eliminate hairballs and keep them safe from toxic plants.
- Cat grass can be found everywhere, from the super market to pet stores. Pet supply catalogs also sell already growing and potted grass.
- Healthy and natural cat grass provides an excellent source of vegetation, your cat needs its greens just like you.
- Unlike your lawn grass, the cat grass you grow in your home will not be exposed to outdoor air pollution, pesticides, and other chemicals.
- The best way to safely satisfy your cats’ taste for greens is to provide a pot of fresh organic cat grass.
- It is quite simple to provide your cat(s) with their own salad bar, as cat grass is very easy to grow from seeds.
- A simple and safe solution to satisfy your cat’s craving for grass is growing cat grass.
Cats like to eat anything green, some things are harmful and may require medical help such as:
- Amaryllis – vomiting
- Buckthorn – vomiting
- Calla lily – nausea
- Daffodil – diarrhea
- Dieffenbachia – salvation
- English holly – abdominal pain
- English ivy – nausea
- Honeysuckle – possible nerve involvement
- Mistletoe – irregular heartbeat
- Oleander – immediate nausea
- Peach pits – coma
- Poinsettia – possible kidney trouble
- Wisteria – salivation
Prevention is always the best so keep these out of reach and if you see that your cat has gotten into any of these, contact your veterinarian immediately just in case. Our eBay store carries a variety of supplements and nutrients to help you keep your cat healthy.
